Coach The Coach

1:1 Support for Instructional Coaches

Observation and feedback are key to teacher growth, but the Instructional Coaches need support too! The demands on their time are extensive, so efficient coaching sessions with maximum impact are critical. EdConnective has been training our own instructional coaches for years in virtual observation, feedback and role play, and with EdConnective Coach, we can help yours too.

What makes impactful instructional coaching?

The level of intensity necessary to impact student outcomes through teacher growth is often difficult for instructional coaches or lead educators to achieve. In order to ensure impactful instructional coaching, 3 numbers matter:

3 Numbers Matter

  • 1: Coaching must be 1:1 to maximize impact.

  • 6: To be habit-forming, coaching and practice must happen for a minimum of 6 weeks.

  • 48: Feedback must happen within 48 hours of observation. More than that, and the impact of the feedback declines steeply. It must be fresh!

All three must be present!

How does Coach-Coaching Work?

  1. All participants attend a 3-hour coaching accelerator session to set the stage for a successful partnership.

  2. Participant is matched with an EdConnective expert instructional coach using 15+ factors

  3. Intro meeting where participant and coach collaborate to set goals for the partnership

  4. Participant records their feedback session with teachers they’re coaching.

  5. EdConnective coach reviews the recording

  6. Feedback session within 48 hours of recording

  7. Steps 4-6 are repeated throughout the 90-day partnership. There is no limit to the number of times the coach and participant can meet over the course of the 90 days.

Process for Coaching Instructional Coaches

Structure of a Feedback Session

Feedback sessions are 2-way conversations between coaches and participants. Feedback without modeling and practice isn’t actionable. In fact, research suggests that only 10% of teachers can be told about a new skill and actually implement it in practice, but when that new skill is modeled, role-played and practiced, 95% can implement it!

Each feedback session with an EdConnective coach includes review based on the actual recorded observation (which since recorded, can be reviewed with the participant), with a significant portion of each session dedicated to modeling and practice.
